LocaleText2 - Solution Code

Note: Rename project folder to "LocaleText" before opening in Android Studio.

Demonstrates how to add languages for string resources, and fix layouts for an RTL language. This version includes the Language menu option for switching languages.

Introduction

This app, based on the Basic Activity template, provides TextViews with string resources in a ConstraintLayout. It includes an image and a floating action button. The options menu has a single menu item, Help, that launches a second activity with help information.

Included in this version is the Language menu option to make it easier for the user to open the language list without having to look for and launch the Settings app.

Pre-requisites

You need to know:

  • How to open, build, and run apps with Android Studio.
  • How to switch languages on an Android device or emulator.
  • How to extract string resources and use string resources in the code.
  • How to use the layout editor to align views in a ConstraintLayout.
  • How to edit layouts in XML.
  • How to change or add to an options menu set up by the Basic Activity template.

Getting Started

  1. Download the code.
  2. Open the code in Android Studio.
  3. Run the app.
