[BUG] Add photo does nothing

Add photo works fine in desktop browser

Updated to 1.10.0,

upon tapping "Add photo", it briefly displays Downloading updates to Google Play services... - so briefly I can't screenshot it, and then:

Something went wrong
Try again later
Cancel

Concerned by Google, I had disabled e.g. Play Store, but Play Services were enabled.
Upon disabling Services and other Google thingies,
"Add photo" offers me to pick a photo.
Then an editor requires me to crop the picture into a square (dubious style, IMHO),
then I press "CROP" in the upper right corner,
which brings me back to "Manage photos" in profile
but new photo isn't added
