When I write metadata and artwork in MP3 files they can't be played properly on MacOS Finder's preview.
With VLC the file sounds ok, but other software like Ableton Live can't read it properly as the file is mistakenly taken as a Mpeg 1 layer I (not layer III).
Files written without artwork behave normally.
