I remember with MDT you could create a custom task and run the wizard to test application installations to make sure they work as expected. Is that still available with PSD, I am not sure I would even know where to go to perform the same steps. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Currently as far as i have seen, PSD doesn't have a way to be invoked inside windows like MDT did with the litetouch.vbs script.
Until the developers can confirm it can be invoked within windows, any custom task sequences won't work unless they are built to run in the WinPE environment.
PSD does not currently support running the PSDWizard from the desktop. It's not because of the wizard limitations; it has to do with launching the sequencer from the desktop for it be functional as it depends on it to be functional.
It is possible but very complex. I have been doing this in my development lab as it's the easiest way to simulate the wizard for development before full testing and releases.
I only do this for development purposes only though.
