I have made a new branch of CLM to be used in NorESM2.2, based on what is used in CESM2.2 (tag release-cesm2.2.01). The new branch is called release-cesm2.2.01-Nor.
Could you check whether the one NorESM-specific modification (in file src/biogeophys/SoilHydrologyMod.F90) should be implemented again, or whether CESM has it now standard present in its new CTSM releases (release-cesm2.2.01)?
Thanks.
Dirk

Sorry for the slow response here. The modification we made to NorESM2 was a fix to something that turned out to be a combination of a bug (causing unphysical snow depth increase) and just incomplete model physics which would require substantial changes to the code to solve. I have checked the new branch, and it includes the bug fix (see here for details: ESCOMP#573). The simplified physics (where surface water turns into snow when it freezes) is still there, but I don't think our modification solves this in a very good way either. So I would suggest we don't keep it.
