Chemfig does not work

Any attempt to use chemfig results in infinite buffering or the placeholder image including the example shown in the read me. I have already tried on other devices but it's broken there too.

I do have the chemfig package installed in miktex.
Chemfig also works in other editors including the example code.

The normal tikzpictures work fine.
