PS1 seems to crash when selecting the memory card manager

Hello I am currently having trouble with booting into unirom after accessing the memory card manager.
I am using an InterAct Dex drive connected to my windows 10 laptop through usb using this adapter and the software MemCardRex v.1.9.b7a018. This set up appears to work as I'm able to backup and write memory card images.

I can't seem to get the exploit to work though. I've downloaded the correct memcard image for my scph-9001,

wrote it to a 3rd party MadCatz memory card (worked properly previously), checked it by reading the card,

and put it into my Playstation port 1. I turn it on and wait for it to enter the bios, select the memcard manager but nothing happens. The cursor disappears like I unplugged the controller and the system appears to crash or hardlock. I'm not sure what I could be doing wrong. Any help would be Appreciated!

My god, I am a truly exceptional individual. For anyone having trouble, when using MemCardRex, make sure to have this

setting disabled. Odds are you already do, I believe it's predisabled on download. Only enable it when you want to reformat a freepsxboot card to make it usable for regular saves again.
