OpenROV started out as a project among friends to get to the bottom of an underwater cave rumored to contain buried treasure. Since then OpenROV has grown into a company and a community of DIY explorers who are working together to create more accessible, affordable, and awesome tools for underwater exploration.

David, is the author of the book, Zero to Maker. He is a TED Senior Fellow, a National Geographic Explorer and a member of NOAA's Ocean Exploration Advisory Board. Prior to underwater robots, David managed OCSC Sailing School in Berkeley where he helped hundreds of students learn to sail and led sailing adventures around the world.

Eric Stackpole <small>co-founder</small>

Eric is a co-founder and the original designer of OpenROV. Prior to OpenROV, he worked part-time for NASA at the Ames Research Center and has a Master’s Degree in mechatronics from Santa Clara University. Eric has always been passionate about exploration technology, from building telerobots to remotely attend classes in college, to lugging ham radios up mountains during backpacking trips. He has spent the last decade piloting and operating remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) in the field.
