First public instance of Rostra node

Rostra is p2p, and intended to be ran directly as an app on your computer or a phone (eventually), but I know how important it is for people to try out things without too much friction. That's why I already invested in what is necessary to host Rostra on a web-server.

I've just deployed current Rostra web instance to:

https://rostra.me

with a goal of making it easy for people to just try it out.

Notably, I can't really guarantee that this server will not lose data (or I won't have to just start wiping it eventually), so it should be treated as a playground. If you want to keep your data, you should start Rostra locally using the same identity, so it can replicate your existing posts.

Also, please be aware that it's still extremely early, and as happy as I am to have something to show, there's still a lot of things to improve and iterate on.

Does it have a concept of having a 12 word private key? And in case I have such a key, how do I use it here?

In this link, if I enter this key in the 'mnemonic' box, then it doesn't seem to take it. I was able to generate some id, and make some 'posts', but it did not give me the secret key.

Check this screenshot taken after i pressed 'random'. the secret/hidden text is not copyable, which is a problem for me because I can't save it.

The browser should offer to save it. At least mine does. Other than this you can generate it in the command line too. But yeah - some UI to export it after the fact is necessary too.

You could use "Inspect" and check the network request to find it as well. It's currently sent to the server when you click Unlock, as client-side signing is not implemented yet.

So summary about key ui is

• my ubuntu chrome does not offer to save it as password. the firefox does offer to save it as password.
• the chrome allows me to view and copy the 24 word key from dev tools. Firefox hides it there.

Overall, one could save them in both.

And I was able to follow another account and see its posts

Thanks a lot! I'll have to look into what's up with Chrome password saving. I thought I tested it in my Chromium.
