Description

We currently do not have documentation describing how to use the boost functionality for search. Looking at the opster (which we are migrating into our docs), a decent explanation is provided https://opster.com/guides/elasticsearch/search-apis/elasticsearch-bool-queries/

I'm curious if it's excluded by design or if we want to add it, it makes the most sense under the "minimum_should_match parameter".

@thekofimensah I suspect this is an oversight, and definitely not by design. There was decent coverage of boosting in the old definitive guide: https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/guide/current/query-time-boosting.html

t makes the most sense under the "minimum_should_match parameter".

Given that boost is primarily about controlling relevance, it belongs under a Search Relevance section. But this is a symptom of a bigger issue, we don't have a dedicated search relevance section in the Elasticsearch docs. I suspect it was another oversight that this entire Controlling relevance topic wasn't ported over.

It sounds like we should wait until the migration to start adding bigger sections like this?

Also FYI, the definitive guide is going to go through a bit of a rewrite giving another potential blocker
