whether the .gb.gz format is used for the making the database?

Hi,

I am now going to create my own database downloading from NCBI database.
The format is .gb.gz in compressed format instead of its unziped one, .gbk.
So, I am wondering whether these .gb.gz files can be used directly? or unzip at first?
