@entrotech @hanapotski Please check out the Mid-City NC's website and see the overview for the list of tech they use.

As per adding our embed to their website Resources Page: https://www.mincla.org/resources, what else do we need to know, or have prepared to assist them with adding the embed to their site?

Note I am working on scheduling a meeting with the council chair for next Thurs, Nov 17.

Notes from call with John D:

Website designed with Wix Thunderbolt. We will need to know:

  • How do they maintain their site?
  • What kind of support can we offer them?

The Embed is a large file, could take up to a minute to load. The Dev team is working on performance issues.
Embedding Food Oasis in Your Web Site

NC: ID is needed to highlight the specific neighborhood on the map. https://la.foodoasis.net/widget?neighborhood_id=73
is the URL they need to add in addition to the embed code.

The Zoom of the map is set so it comes up as small, but this can be adjusted. The user can search in any area same as on the website.

John is going to join me for the meeting with Wendell.

  • Send cal invite to John.

(2022) MEETING: MINC Wendell Greer <> FOOD OASIS Stacey Scott

Meeting with Wendell went very well. The partnership is going to be more than just getting our embed on their site. Wendell and the MINC staff are focused on meaningful, long term partnerships.

We will have an opportunity to present to the board in either Jan or Feb.

  • 15 min intro to our project, what we want to accomplish with MINV, any programs or events we want to initiate, grant funding we want to apply for.

He mentioned connections with farmers markets and mobile food pantries, and since we have discussed whether we should look into these options, it was interesting to get that input from a community representative.

Wendell is going to:

  • Send us a list of pantries in the NC area.
  • Contacts for the farmers markets in the area
  • Info on Food insecurity from CD10 (City council district 10)

There is connection between the NCs and the City Councils. We will be looking into this relationship to figure out the landscape. Working with elected officials in addition to volunteers could mean more exposure for Food Oasis.

Based on the size of the embed, it may be more feasible for us to design and write content for a section under Food Insecurity on their site and have a link to our Food Oasis site.

Sent follow up email to Wendell:

[[ Hi Wendell,

It was wonderful chatting with you this afternoon, and I look forward to exploring the partnership between MINC and Food Oasis.

As per my notes, you are going to send me:

  • A list of food pantries in City Council District 10
  • Contacts for the Farmers Markets in CD10
  • Information and research on Food Insecurity in CD10
  • A job description for a Webmaster for MINC

My tasks are to:

  • Inform my team on everything we discussed
  • Decide when we want to present to the council board (Jan or Feb)
  • Post a message within Hack for LA for anyone interested in a webmaster role at MINC
  • Post a message to promote becoming a volunteer with your local NC- for all LA based Hack for LA volunteers

Please let me know if any questions come up in the meantime. ]]

I will be working on an evaluation of the NC partnership outreach up until now. As per my comment in #1341 the NCs might be a viable marketing option, but as far as partnership, they are not proving to be the right fit.

I will likely send out an email to Wendell with this update before the end of January, but would still like to check in with him to see if he can provide the food pantry and farmers market information he mentioned in our meeting.

Moving this issue to Up Next. Did not have a chance to send a follow up email to Wendell, but would like to do so before too much time goes by. Will aim to do this next once Roadmapping is done.
