Make ‘copied to clipboard’ message more visible on older devices

Overview

On some browsers/computers (Firefox and Chrome (on Mojave OS X 10.14 from 4 years ago), clicking the ‘share’ button on a listing’s detail page doesn’t seem to have a response. It’s actually displaying a toast in the bottom corner reading “Copied to clipboard”

The problem:

User doesn’t know what, if anything, just happened when they pressed the ‘share’ button

Ideas

Some possibilities to make the message more obvious:

• Color (more visible),
• Placement (move toast in the middle of the screen) etc.?
• Maybe the message “copied to clipboard’ appears in a tool tip near the Share button that was just clicked? Maybe to a form field error message but not red?
• If using toast, look at Improve the forgot password workflow to match rest of site better, and improve usability #730 to see how it was recently done — perhaps reuse that design?

Action Items

• Explore ways to make ‘copied to clipboard’ more visible while being similar to rest of site
• Evaluate for difficulty and choose a direction
• Implement
