I am facing the same problem, Arch Linux as well, latest release (0.15.1).
I have a feeling it might have to do with fonts:
Official screenshots of the software showcase a monospace font in the editing area, but both my experience with it, and the recording above, have a non-monospace, sans-serif font.
It might be failing to find a font it expects.
And if my hunch is right, that also would be the cause to this problem.
Until there is a fix, I'll workaround by using a separate program for the .ink files; Inky happens to load in any changes made to the file elsewhere. Edit story in a text editor -- preview, manage knots, etc, in Inky.
The text cursor is placed further forward in the line, and does not represent the correct character column that we're working on.
