Lots of sites have "author's notes" as part of the chapter, or as separately-extractable segments of the page. For those cases where they can be easily extracted, setting them up to be displayed in a standard manner would be good.
As-is, we just concatenate the separate notes onto the start/end of the chapter, which is fragile.

I think it's worth trying to hew to the original experience here. Footnotes work for spoiler-tags because those are both hidden away and optional, whereas the author notes are far more in-your-face.
