Issue description

I open this issue to track the work of adapting the test suite to work with Flake's checks.

I haven't started the work yet, so if anyone wants to pick this up they are free to do so.

Motivations

I like to believe we will see performance gains and memory usage reduction (though I have no technical grounds to base this on).
