fates does not power up after firmware update #13

I recently got a fully functional fates norns that had old firmware (2019). the first thing I did when i received it was removed the sdhc card and upload the latest norns firmware (dec '22) to the sdhc card with etcher. the file image transfer was successful. I then inserted the card and plugged fates into a power source. I first used the usb output of a power strip, my macbook pro, a macbook air power adapter, and an ipad power adapter. none of these have powered up the fates. in each instance, a red led on the front of the fates lights up and the green led blinks four times consecutively or flashes erratically, while the red led is constant.

I have searched lines for a solution to no avail. I have read through the norns documents and troubleshooting on monome.org. I am unsure how to proceed. Any resources you can send or ideas about what i did wrong, or have not done yet, would be much appreciated.

My ideas were to 1. purchase the suggested power adapter for norns from adafruit, 2. get a new sdhc card and upload the firmware using the raspberry pi imager instead of etcher, and 3, if i have damaged the unit by using a power adapter that sent too much voltage, have it repaired and purchase the necessary parts to do so. I felt it necessary to ask the developer before potentially causing additional issues.

I did not power on the norns with the 2019 firmware or connect it to wifi and maiden before overwriting the 2019 firmware with the latest firmware.
