Lightstone showing up as 2+ devices on Windows w/o WDK installed

When run on windows 7 without the WDK installed, the lightstone shows up as two devices in count instead of 1. On WinXP, it shows up as 3.

We query twice for count and opening, since we have 2 vid/pid pairs to look through. It looks like this somehow changes in between calls?! The first device listed is also always bogus.
