About the project

bpy is Blender's official Python Module. Blender is a well-known 3D free and open source software existing for over 30 years.

We are looking into maturing the release schedule of this module towards PyPI. That also includes archiving all releases that are outside our LTS version window (currently <4.2.0) and hosting them on our own static hosting.

However, the size increase would facilitate us being able to release and keep more corrective releases (e.g. 4.2.1, 4.5.1, 5.0.1, etc.) on PyPI, allowing users to more gracefully update/downgrade when needed.

Let us know if there are any recommendations from your end into how we should go about doing this.

How large is each release?

Based on the following:

4.5.0             Jul 21, 2025   4 files (4 Wheel)            1128.8 MB
4.4.0 => 4.4.3    Mar 18, 2025   5 files (5 Wheel)            1332.3 MB
4.3.0 => 4.3.2    Nov 21, 2024   4 files (4 Wheel)            1158.3 MB

Our release are approximately 1.2GB in size, depending on how many platforms we support for that version.

How frequently do you make a release?

Roughly 2-3 releases every month (including corrective release and the start of new STS/LTS versions)
