The spec says now 301 but that the server MAY redirect.

403 if not authorized to read or write the existing resource. Required.
404 if authorized to know the existence of the existing resource. Implementation specific.
301 or 308 if authorized to read or write the existing resource and if redirect supported. Implementation specific.

Reopening the issue as it was closed by a non-CG member at the time, without CG's consent. The last useful revision in #219 (comment) is below, before the comment was erased.

The spec reads:

If two URIs differ only in the trailing slash, and the server has associated a resource with one of them, then the other URI MUST NOT correspond to another resource.

The question is now: given that one of them exists, what should the status code for the other one be?

This continues the discussion of CommunitySolidServer/CommunitySolidServer#475 (comment)

GitHub's ToS allow users to reference and reuse publicly available comments within GitHub (see Section D.5). And, the Solid GitHub org operates under an MIT license, promoting open collaboration and transparency. Additionally, as part of the Solid CG, contributions fall under the W3C Community Group CLA, which permits broad reuse within the community.
