My open source work has these goals:
- Making development of useful, efficient and reliable programs always easier, and more fun
- Showing good examples and inspiring people
- Giving back to the community, because giving is among the best ways to create actual value
Most of my code is done with Kotlin because it's a truly good language with key "killer" features like Coroutines, and it runs on many platforms (without requiring an all or nothing commitment).
What I work on in OSS
I work on Splitties, an Android first Kotlin multiplatform project where I share my best extensions, built with quality in mind, that help get rid of routine boilerplate otherwise needed on Android or other Kotlin targets.
I also work on a few open source libraries at @Beepiz like BleGattCoroutines that brings a functional API for Bluetooth Low Energy (GATT, the connection part).
I also contribute to many open source projects, and not just fixing typos!
I fix bugs and add a few features like in kotlinx.coroutines and even made a whole new implementation for @jmfayard's "refreshVersions" Gradle plugin to improve UX, reliability and performance of the developer tool.
Finally, I do some code review while doing my work, and that's where I catch typos, and sometimes, bugs too, where I submit fixing PRs whenever possible.
My other contributions in the software dev community
I give a few talks per year since 2018 at conferences, meetups and online events.
I am a top issue reporter for Kotlin and I report many issues in other projects as well. I strive to provide helpful and actionable information, and suggestions for improvement or fixing.
I help people on Kotlin's Slack.
I transfer my knowledge through pair-programming on open source projects.
Why become my sponsor
If you run a business and are using Splitties or refreshVersions in the chain of a revenue-generating activity, then it makes sense to sponsor their development: it ensures the project you rely on stays healthy and actively maintained. It can also increase your exposure in the Kotlin community, which can make attracting Kotlin and/or Android developers easier.
