typeahead:closed is called everytime

So i want to click on a button and associate a different action with it when the typeahead dropdown is opened. But the click event doesn't triggers and only the typeahead dropdown closes every time, however if the dropdown is not opened and i click the button it works as required.

How can i achieve clicking on the button when the typeahead dropdown is open.
