Are there any further plans of development? Like adding new weapons, jetpacks etc...

Iceball does NOT use the same engine as AoS. It's a complete ground up open source rewrite.

Well, it is not Iceball. There were some plans to implement new protocol in OS, so that it would be possible to have basically two versions of the game in one OS client. This seemed like a nice approach to move from the original traditional AoS Beta to something more advanced, while somehow holding the player base. But it did not worked out.

You can't add new weapons or such on the current protocol in any way.

There is the next-gen protocol development project. But it is abandoned for now.

@kirtangajjar There are a few commits inside the ngspades branch, but hasn't been updated since more than 2 years ago (July of 2014).

The plans and ideas discussed can be seem with a search for All issues with the 'next-gen-protocol' tag.

There is also the Trello board thread, which has the links to the commits for what was implemented and some ideas too.
