sudo apt-get install libgnome-keyring-dev
npm config set python /usr/bin/python2 -g
to ensure that gyp uses Python 2
git clone https://github.com/atom/atom
cd atom
script/build # Creates application at /tmp/atom-build/Atom
sudo script/grunt install # Installs command to /usr/local/bin/atom
In case you get the following error message (for example on Ubuntu LTS 14.04 64-bit):
usr/local/share/atom/atom: error while loading shared libraries:
libudev.so.0: cannot open shared object file:
No such file or directory
Run:
cd /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/
sudo ln -s libudev.so.1 libudev.so.0
