An application which can display many 3d file formats, developed in C++.
This application is based on the Open Asset Import Library, and therefore supports many 3d formats, including FBX, 3DS, OBJ and BLEND. A full list of supported formats can be found on Assimp's GitHub page.
This project is built using CMake.
- cmake >= 3.0
- Qt5
- A C++ compiler with support for the C++17 standard
To build the project with the default CMake generator, use the following commands:
mkdir build
cd build
cmake -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=MinSizeRel ..
cmake --build .
If multiple Qt installations exists or the Qt installation cannot be found via the systems PATH environment variable, the path to the installation has to be manually specified when calling CMake for the first time. When, for example, Visual Studio 2017 and Qt 5.12.1 should be used, the third line becomes:
cmake -G"Visual Studio 15 2017 Win64" -DQt5_DIR=C:\Qt\Qt5.12.1\5.12.1\msvc2017_64\lib\cmake\Qt5 ..
The application can be run by typing
build/modelviewer <path-to-file>
from the repository root directory, whereas <path-to-file>
is the path to the 3d model that should be opened.
If the parameter is left empty, no file is opened.
A file can also be opened from inside the program, via the File->Open menu entry.
Furthermore, this program can be set as the default application for 3d models by the operating system, which allows it to be used by doubleclicking on the 3d model file.
