What is umbilical? - Umbilical is the use of a direct connection from the printer to your toolhead, bypassing the normal convention of running control wiring through the cable tracks that are standard on a Voron V2.4.
Umbilical can reduce or even eliminate broken wires due to the much larger bend radius. Silicone wire can freely be used as a budget option fir wiring if you decide to not invest in flex cable. Easier troubleshooting of control wiring/ and MUCH easier replacement of defective wiring.
You may lose some Z travel depending on how your setup is arranged. In the end though, personally I, like 90% of others print 200mm and lower for most of my projects.
Umbilical mounting system for the V2 that doesn't require de-term/ re-term of an existing umbilical system to install. These mounts will allow the usage of a variety of multi conductor cables in an umbilical arrangement on the Voron V2.4. They mount to existing holes on parts so that changes to parts on the base machine that are difficult to swap are eliminated. When combined with Ark's MGN12 mod and homing switch relocation, it allows complete removal of the X and Y wire tracks. This greatly simplifies gantry maintenance.
I am personally using the below cable on my V2.4: https://www.automationdirect.com/adc/shopping/catalog/cables/bulk_multi-conductor_cable/continuous_flexing_control_cable/20_awg_unshielded/cf5-05-18-1
The mount has a dual clamp design with a zip-tie guide at the exit for a secure grip on the cable.
The mount is secured to the AB motor using 4 ea. M3 bolts that replace the stock screws on the motor. It is compatible with both the stepperonline model as well as the LDO.
The rear gantry mount secures to the holes used by the existing cable track cover. Simply remove and install the new part. The top cover has been thickened to prevent breakage.
The cable routing is designed to drop straight into the original path and be secured at the exit of the relief with a ziptie.
