Steps to commit to github

1) after make changes and save, go to source control ("Cltr + Shift + G")

2) press "+" (hover around the file to triggle appearnace), make sure its "staged changes"

3) comment the message (name the phase)

4) press "Commit"

5) press "sync" (at bottom)
